In The New Yorker, Joshua Rothman has a profile of “Rod Dreher’s Monastic Vision”. It’s a fairly empathetic take on Dreher, although Rothman does go off an overly-lengthy “Why are Dreher-types still opposed to gay marriage” rant.
As I’ve mentioned before, I read Dreher pretty regularly because he is an important polemical figure in the Big Game. He’s an acolyte of the great moral philosopher Alisdair McIntyre, whose book After Virtue is one of the most salient books diagnosing the maladies of modernism.
