Are Jews White? – Pt. 2,511

Jim Goad, in his inimitable way, wades into the “Are Jews White?” question. It’s interesting how most of the official, culturally sanctioned discussion of this subject comes only from… Jewish publications.

Uncommon People: The Rise and Fall of the Rock Stars

David Kynaston has a very good review of what sounds to be a very good book: Uncommon People: The Rise and Fall of the Rock Stars by David Hepworth. A key passage from the Hepworth book:

“The age of the rock star ended with the passing of physical product, the rise of automated percussion, the domination of the committee approach to hit-making, the widespread adoption of choreography and, above all, the advent of the mystique-destroying internet,” he argues. “The age of the rock star was coterminous with rock’n’roll, which, in spite of all the promises made in some memorable songs, proved to be as finite as the era of ragtime or big bands. The rock era is over. We now live in a hip-hop world.”

If true, how sad.

Stay Classy, Trinity College

Meanwhile, from Trinity College in Hartford:

A professor at Trinity College wrote that the first responders to last week’s congressional shooting that nearly took Rep. Steve Scalise’s life should have let him and others die because they are white.

Trinity College Professor Johnny Eric Williams seemed to argue in a June 18 Facebook post that first responders to the shooting should have let the wounded individuals die.

“It is past time for the racially oppressed to do what people who believe themselves to be ‘white’ will not do, put end to the vectors of their destructive mythology of whiteness and their white supremacy system. #LetThemFuckingDie,” Williams, an Associate Professor of Sociology, wrote on Facebook.

In another post, Williams wrote that he is “fed the fuck up with self-identified ‘white’s’ daily violence directed at immigrants, Muslims, and sexual and racially oppressed people.” He added that “the time is now to confront these inhuman assholes and end this now.”

The New Germany: Pt. 23,184

From Germany:

Bestiality brothels are spreading through Germany faster than ever thanks to a law that makes animal porn illegal but sex with animals legal, a livestock protection officer has warned…

Last November German authorities said they were planning to reinstate an old law forbidding sex with animals after a sharp rise in incidents of bestiality along with websites promoting it.

Parliament began debating changes to the national Animal Protection Code with the agricultural committee of the Bundestag pledging fines of up to £20,000 for a first offence.

Bestiality dropped off the statute books as a crime in 1969 but in recent years the number of people believed to be participating in such acts has increased significantly.

So, bestiality dropped off the justice system radar screen for the past 50 years, and is now picking up again.

I wonder why that might be?

A scan of the article shows zero instances of the word “Muslim” or the word “migrant”.

Molyneaux on The Double Standard

I’m glad to know Molyneux has tackled this issue.

His Jewish interlocutor, apart from sounding like the stereotype of a stereotype, is simply awful.

Open Mind – Magic Potion (1969)

This cool one-off by Open Mind called “Magic Potion” features a great video mashup, the best ‘60s psychedelic, pop culture collage I’ve yet seen! And dig the guitar solo that starts at 1:45!

Under Trump…

So, as of today, under Trump:

  1. We’re getting more entangled in Syria, to the glee of Neocons;
  2. Foreign H1-B workers are coming in at a higher rate than before;
  3. Trump spares Obama’s illegal DACA carve-out (from the rule of immigration law);
  4. Behind closed doors, GOP Senators are busy watering down any Obamacare replacement (but you can bet the GOP will still now “own” the issue.)

Seth Rich Update

Was Seth Rich assassinated by a ‘hired killer’?

Someone should ask John Podesta, after he finishes eating his pizza.

Beinart: “How the Democrats Lost Their Way on Immigration”

In The Atlantic, Peter Beinart discusses “How the Democrats Lost Their Way on Immigration”:

A decade ago, liberals publicly questioned immigration in ways that would shock many progressives today.

In 2005, a left-leaning blogger wrote, “Illegal immigration wreaks havoc economically, socially, and culturally; makes a mockery of the rule of law; and is disgraceful just on basic fairness grounds alone.” In 2006, a liberal columnist wrote that “immigration reduces the wages of domestic workers who compete with immigrants” and that “the fiscal burden of low-wage immigrants is also pretty clear.” His conclusion: “We’ll need to reduce the inflow of low-skill immigrants.” That same year, a Democratic senator wrote, “When I see Mexican flags waved at proimmigration demonstrations, I sometimes feel a flush of patriotic resentment. When I’m forced to use a translator to communicate with the guy fixing my car, I feel a certain frustration.”

The blogger was Glenn Greenwald. The columnist was Paul Krugman. The senator was Barack Obama…

In 2008, the Democratic platform called undocumented immigrants “our neighbors.” But it also warned, “We cannot continue to allow people to enter the United States undetected, undocumented, and unchecked,” adding that “those who enter our country’s borders illegally, and those who employ them, disrespect the rule of the law.” By 2016, such language was gone. The party’s platform described America’s immigration system as a problem, but not illegal immigration itself. And it focused almost entirely on the forms of immigration enforcement that Democrats opposed. In its immigration section, the 2008 platform referred three times to people entering the country “illegally.” The immigration section of the 2016 platform didn’t use the word illegal, or any variation of it, at all.

I loved this passage:

One way of mitigating this problem would be to scrap the current system, which allows immigrants living in the U.S. to bring certain close relatives to the country, in favor of what Donald Trump in February called a “merit based” approach that prioritizes highly skilled and educated workers. The problem with this idea, from a liberal perspective, is its cruelty. It denies many immigrants who are already here the ability to reunite with their loved ones. And it flouts the country’s best traditions. Would we remove from the Statue of Liberty the poem welcoming the “poor,” the “wretched,” and the “homeless”?

The Zeroeth Amendment!
