Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina):
“If we don’t pass immigration reform, if we don’t get it off the table in a reasonable, practical way, it doesn’t matter who we run in 2016,” he said.
“We’re in a demographic death spiral as a party and the only way we can get back in good graces with the Hispanic community in my view is pass comprehensive immigration reform.”
With the like of Graham, McCain, Rove, Rubio, and Jeb Bush as the GOP leaders, here are the permutations for 2016 as I see it:
- The Immigration Bill doesn’t pass. The GOP puts up a RINO in 2016. Instead of 7 million GOP voters not showing up, 8 million GOP voters (i.e., a disenchanted white middle class base) don’t show up. The GOP loses badly. Graham & the MSM then blame failure to pass the Immigration Bill, the ‘surefire’ way to get Mexican immigrants to start voting Republican, as the reason.
- The Immigration Bill does pass. The GOP puts up a RINO in 2016. Instead of 7 million white GOP voters not showing up, 8.5 million white GOP voters don’t show up. The GOP loses badly. Graham & Co. then argue that the GOP needs to bend even further on its principles for the sake of ‘hispanic outreach’. (This will take the form of an even faster track to amnesty than what was passed in the bill, further assistance to the ‘Dreamers’, etc.)
