The messianic adulation The Organizer received last night, before/during/after his ‘Farewell Address’, puts on clear display the mess the Democratic Party finds itself in: They have no bench. BO’s ascendancy and reign was a political outlier, having less to do with any substantive policy position or issue, and more to do with his cult of personality. In the end, like at the beginning, it was always about Him.
His speech last night was laden with obvious slams against Captain Deplorable:
“For the fight against extremism and intolerance and sectarianism and chauvinism are of a piece with the fight against authoritarianism and nationalist aggression…”
“A faith in reason and enterprise, and the primacy of right over might, that allowed us to resist the lure of fascism and tyranny during the Great Depression, that allowed us to build a post-World War II order with other democracies.
Also, did you notice how many times he said “organize”? In the speech, The Organizer mentioned community organizing on 3 different occasions:
“It’s what pulled immigrants and refugees across oceans and the Rio Grande. It’s what pushed women to reach for the ballot. It’s what powered workers to organize…
“If something needs fixing, then lace up your shoes and do some organizing…
“And to all of you out there — every organizer who moved to an unfamiliar town, every kind family who welcomed them in, every volunteer who knocked on doors, every young person who cast a ballot for the first time, every American who lived and breathed the hard work of change — you are the best supporters and organizers anybody could ever hope for, and I will forever be grateful. Because you did change the world.”
Yes we can?
True, if you mean creating what will ultimately be scene as a footnote presidency.
