Harpers Bizarre – Witchi Tai To (1969)

This beautiful cover of a song written by Jim Pepper (based on a peyote song he’d learned from his grandfather) soars emotionally, through its tight production that lifts as the song progresses. The song starts with the bass line prominent in the mix, the first verse kept minimal. Subsequent verses introduce bells, a distantly picked surf guitar, flute, gorgeous harmony vocals we expect from Harpers Bizarre, and eventually strings.

This song is pure bliss. A great driving song.
