Rush Limbaugh tread on dangerous ground today:
“White guilt is not doing anything for anybody,” Rush Limbaugh said on his radio show this afternoon, urging his audience to understand that “white guilt” is unfounded because Caucasians have historically done more to eradicate slavery than any other race on earth.
“A little history lesson for you. If any race of people should not have guilt about slavery, it’s Caucasians,” Limbaugh said Monday afternoon. “The white race has probably had fewer slaves, and for a briefer period of time, than any other in the history of the world.”
Limbaugh lamented that “the rest of the world” does not come up when the “‘Civil Rights Coalition’ gets ginned up.” He then said that, compared to other instances of slavery throughout history, the United States’ bout with human enslavement was “nowhere near the worst.”
Worse examples, he said, include: the Arabs, black Africans enslaving their own, American-Indians warring against other tribes over slaves, the Israelites during times of Exodus, ancient Rome. “We’re pikers compared to the rest of humanity!” he exclaimed.
“No other race has ever fought a war for the purpose of ending slavery, which we did,” Limbaugh said of the American Civil War. “It’s preposterous that Caucasians are blamed for slavery when they’ve done more than any other race to end slavery.”
