Six French Films That Do Not Speak to the Identity of the Nation

I foolishly clicked a NYT piece titled “Six French Films That Speak to the Identity of the Nation” thinking it might contain cinematic recommendations that elicit a sense of lost indigenous French identity.

Instead, all six of the films discussed focus on France’s “colonial” legacy and/or Arabs living in France.

What was I thinking?
