According to Peter Ostrum, who played young Charlie Bucket in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971), opposite the late Gene Wilder, the Grand Entrance scene was improvised by Wilder. The kids behind the fence had no idea he would be limping slowly.

Today, such an iconic scene would be deemed politically incorrect.

And the ending scene never fails to bring a tear to one’s eye:
