I’m not sure how I feel about this one.
The End of the Tour is an upcoming film based on David Lipsky’s Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip With David Foster Wallace.
I’m a big fan of DFW, who was a really good philosophy candidate and sublime writer of ‘postmodern’ (sigh) fiction. In his final years, he seemed to be reacting admirably against the nihilist reputation so-called postmodern fiction (e.g., Franzen, DeLillo, etc.) by tenuously charting the course for a moral fiction.
Wallace’s suicide greatly affected me, and the fact that DFW’s family have completely disassociated themselves from this film is worrisome.
Then again, the film could be brilliant.
You never know such things until the film is released and seen by people.
