Virility

The idea of a Jewish writer for The New Yorker discussing virility is rather funny. The photo that accompanies the piece – a photo of Russell Crowe from Gladiator – makes it even funnier:

The concept’s misogyny, of course, is more pronounced. Virility is a misogynistic ideal in an obvious way—historically and etymologically, it’s tied to the idea of male superiority.
