Watching this vibrantly-diverse (3/4th black, with the white guy entirely silent) MSNBC panel (led by ‘Melitha Harrith Perry’) try, through the most bizarre rhetorical contortions, to sweep the Borat Bros’ Islam connection under the rug is like an SNL parody.
The surrealism is compouned by the crawl at the bottom of the screen, which reads: “FBI: 1600% increase in anti-muslim hate crime incidents after 9/11”.
Yeah, when, in a nation of 300 million people (before Sept. 11, 2001 and all that entailed for American consciousness of Islam) you go from 2 incidents per year of someone looking funny at a Muslim to 32 incidents per year of someone looking funny at a Muslim, I suppose that would be a 1600% increase in ‘anti-muslim hate crimes’.
