NYT: When Prophecy Fails – Pt. 24,182

In When Prophecy Fails (1956), Leon Festinger showed how disconfirmation of beliefs can lead to increased conviction in these very beliefs. Festinger stated that five conditions must be present if someone is to become a more fervent believer after a failure or disconfirmation:

  1. A belief must be held with deep conviction and it must have some relevance to action, that is, to what the believer does or how he or she behaves.
  2. The person holding the belief must have committed himself to it; that is, for the sake of his belief, he must have taken some important action that is difficult to undo. In general, the more important such actions are, and the more difficult they are to undo, the greater is the individual’s commitment to the belief.
  3. The belief must be sufficiently specific and sufficiently concerned with the real world so that events may unequivocally refute the belief.
  4. Such undeniable disconfirmatory evidence must occur and must be recognized by the individual holding the belief.
  5. The individual believer must have social support. It is unlikely that one isolated believer could withstand the kind of disconfirming evidence that has been specified. If, however, the believer is a member of a group of convinced persons who can support one another, the belief may be maintained and the believers may attempt to proselytize or persuade nonmembers that the belief is correct.

‘Mad’ Mike Hoare

In Social Matter, Benjamin Welton has an excellent essay on ““Mad” Mike Hoare: White Giant”, which discusses a famous group of English mercenaries in Africa, and various historical inaccuracies about Belgian and English colonialism.

Having recently watched Dark of the Sun (1968), featuring the greatly underrated Rod Taylor, methinx it’s now time to watch The Wild Geese (1978), a film starring Richard Burton, Richard Harris, and Roger Moore. Those three guys in a mercenary action flick? I mean: c’mon.

Kosher Salt: On Jewish Humor

In City Journal, Stefan Kanfer reviews Jewish Comedy: A Serious History by Jeremy Dauber (“Kosher Salt: How Jewish humor became the standard”). The sort of self-deprecating Jewish joke I wish we heard more of:

Sometimes the humor presented the flip side of anti-Semitism. Two impoverished Jews see a sign in front of a church offering cash to anyone who converts to Christianity. The bolder one schemes to fake it, mumble the appropriate homage to Jesus, and buy dinner with the reward. Hours later, he emerges. “Did you get paid?” his friend demands. The scornful reply: “All you people think about is money.”

I do have to take issue with the last paragraph of Kanfer’s piece:

The odd thing, Dauber suggests, is that the old rules of Jewish humor are changing as we watch. The appeal of such comedy used to be insular, full of attitude delivered with rimshots. “But is that true in America today?” Dauber asks, “where the best jokes aren’t about Jewish failure, but about Jewish success?” The answer will appear in clubs and on screens soon enough. Funny how that happens.

Don’t bet on that.

Jewish over-representation in all elite strata is not something they want goyim to notice, let alone openly discuss.

John Stuart Mill: Liberty & Flourishing

From Christopher Macleod’s brief essay on “John Stuart Mill: higher happiness”:

In contrast to many contemporary thinkers, Mill’s defence of liberal principles is historical and local – not abstract and universal. Whereas the prevailing wisdom maintains that individuals possess certain rights to free speech and action simply by virtue of their status as human beings, Mill was suspicious of that claim.  As a robust naturalist – one who believed only in those objects discovered by observation or the methods of empirical science – Mill could not accept the idea of rights which attach to every human being but were wholly imperceptible to the senses.  Nor could he agree with those who, like the US Founding Fathers, held that our possession of certain unalienable rights was “self-evident”.  If such rights genuinely were self-evident, he notes, there would hardly be so much disagreement about them.

Mill’s argument for the principle of liberty is based on an observation about the conditions most conducive to flourishing in societies that have reached a certain level of civilization. Given the level of moral and intellectual cultivation achieved in Western Europe – modest, Mill suggests, but not insignificant – a robust atmosphere of freedom is indispensable for the advancement of knowledge and the achievement of happiness…

While individuals in “civilized” societies thrive in an atmosphere that protects rights of freedom, for nations that belong to a “barbarous state”, he writes, the best thing would be “obedience to an Akbar or a Charlemagne, if they are so fortunate as to find one”.

Orban Rules – Pt. 418

BUDAPEST (Reuters) – Hungarian leader Viktor Orban called on Sunday for a global alliance against migration as his right-wing populist Fidesz party began campaigning for an April 8 election in which it is expected to win a third consecutive landslide victory.

Popular at home but increasingly at odds politically and economically with mainstream European Union peers, Orban has thrived on external controversy, including repeated clashes with Brussels and lately the United Nations.

Those conflicts, mostly centered on migration since people fleeing war and poverty in the Middle East and Africa flooded into Europe in 2015, have intensified as the elections approach and Orban poses as a savior of Europe’s Christian nations.

“Christianity is Europe’s last hope,” Orban told an audience of party faithful at the foot of the Royal Castle in Budapest. With mass immigration, especially from Africa, “our worst nightmares can come true. The West falls as it fails to see Europe being overrun.”

Orban is widely credited for reversing an economic slump in Hungary and controlling its public finances, culminating in a return to investment-grade for its debt, which was cut to ‘junk’ during the 2008 global economic crisis.

To achieve that and hold onto power the prime minister, 54, has used methods that critics have called authoritarian, and picked fights with EU partners, especially in the West. Eastern leaders, most notably in Poland, have followed his lead.

But migration dominates his agenda now.

Orban said on Sunday that Europe faces a critical fissure between nation states of the East and the West, which he called an “immigrant zone, a mixed population world that heads in a direction different from ours”.

As the West wants eastern Europe to follow its lead, an increasingly vicious struggle was likely, he said, alluding to a plan to redraw the European alliance advocated by the leaders of France and Germany.

“Absurd as it may sound the danger we face comes from the West, from politicians in Brussels, Berlin and Paris,” Orban said to loud applause. “Of course we will fight, and use ever stronger legal tools. The first is our ‘Stop Soros’ law.”

Orban has for years targeted Hungarian-born U.S. financier George Soros, whose philanthropy aims to bolster liberal and open-border values — anathema to Orban, an advocate of a loose group of strong nation states that reject multiculturalism.

The Hungarian leader has advocated “ethnic homogeneity” and compared Soros, a Jew, to a puppet master unleashing immigration onto Europe to undermine its cultural and economic integrity.

A defining moment of his premiership came in 2015, as the migrant crisis peaked: he built a double razor wire fence that became the symbol of anti-migrant sentiment in Europe.

Orban also said the Hungarian opposition had failed to heed the call of history when it opposed his toughness on migrants.

Voters have responded favorably and Orban is a clear leader of all polls.

Counter Extremism Project’s “Most Wanted” List

I thought the ADL and $PLC was enough. But, no, the threat of extremism is so dire we need more ‘extremism-combatting’ orgs. In The Hill, David Ibsen, executive director of the Counter Extremism Project, pens an op-ed titled “A call to arms for tech companies: Get extremists off your platforms”.

Ibsen calls for proactive measures by tech giants to deplatform extremists, citing 4 example of ‘extremists’ that it is morally imperative for Silicon Valley to deplatform:

The new Guide to Online Propagandists rom my organization, the Counter Extremism Project, highlights more than a dozen radical propagandists whose hateful rhetoric remains freely accessible across social media platforms. These include:

Abdullah Faisal, an internationally banned Islamist propagandist convicted in the United Kingdom of soliciting murder and inciting racial hatred. Faisal has been linked to the radicalization of shoe bomber Richard Reid, 7/7 London bomber Germaine Lindsay, would-be Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad, and 9/11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui. A February 2017 YouTube search returned almost 4,000 results, including two channels devoted to Faisal.

Yusuf Qaradawi, a Muslim Brotherhood ideologue who has justified suicide bombings and the killing of Islamic apostates. Qaradawi lives in Qatar under the government’s protection. Qaradawi’s name returns more than 10,000 results on YouTube.

Ahmad Musa Jibril, a Michigan-based Islamist preacher popular with ISIS fighters and supporters. Though Jibril has retreated from his social media accounts in recent years, the accounts remain active and his name still returns more than 1,000 hits on YouTube, including two channels devoted to him. Khuram Butt, one of the perpetrators of the June 3, 2017, London Bridge terrorist attack, reportedly was radicalized by watching Jibril’s videos online.

Nathan Damigo, founder of the white nationalist movement Identity Evropa. Damigo has called for the preservation of white European culture, which he believes is under attack from the forces of multiculturalism. He has appeared alongside noted white nationalist Richard Spencer and spreads his xenophobia messages to university campuses. Damigo stepped down as leader of Identity Evropa last year, but he maintains an active presence on YouTube, where his own channel has almost 4,000 subscribers, and Twitter, where he has almost 20,000 followers.

Yes, Nathan Damigo is listed, alongside 3 Muslims.

JYT: Poland Better Acknowledge Their Role in the Holocaust™

Nationalism is on the rise in Poland, and **** don’t like to see nationalist sentiment among European goyim, be they from the Western side of Europe or the Eastern side.

This past November, 60,000 Polish nationalists marched on Poland’s independence day. In July of last year, Trump’s pro-nationalism speech in Warsaw drew raucous applause. In reaction to this trajectory, Jewish media has been in panic mode.

The Atlantic publishes a piece called “Poland and the Uncontrollable Fury of Europe’s Far Right”. In recent months, Newsweek has issued a steady stream of alarmist pieces such as “Neo-Nazis And Hitler Supporters Thrive With Impunity In Poland, Jewish Leader Says”. Etc.

We can expect much more of this in the wake of Polish lawmakers passing a very significant piece of legislation this past January:

WARSAW (Reuters) – Polish lawmakers approved a bill on Thursday that would impose jail terms for suggesting Poland was complicit in the Holocaust, drawing concern from the United States and outrage from Israel, which denounced “any attempt to challenge historical truth”.

Poland’s ruling Law and Justice party (PiS) says the bill is needed to protect Poland’s reputation and ensure historians recognize that Poles as well as Jews perished under the Nazis. Israeli officials said it criminalizes basic historical facts.

CNN then dutifully publishes “Poland’s Holocaust law should terrify you” and, today, the **** who run the NYT are kvetching. An above-the-fold story, titled “Lessons on the Holocaust, From Warsaw’s No. 35 Tram” by Jacob Mikanowski, begins with the by-now, standard, “My column is precluded from criticism because of Holocaust”, bromide of a preface:

My grandparents, great-aunts and great-uncles, the generation who lived through World War II, never visited a concentration camp. Neither have I. To remember the Holocaust, it’s enough to ride the No. 35 tram through Warsaw. On its voyage from north to south, it passes sites of public commemoration, like the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes; the Umschlagplatz, where Jews from the ghetto were herded into railcars for transport to the death camps; and the Pawiak prison, the main holding place for political prisoners during the Nazi occupation…

Cue the slow violins.

What is the point of the article?

The history of the Holocaust in Poland is painful and complex. A new law passed by Poland’s ruling Law and Justice Party aims to make it simple. Signed by President Andrzej Duda on Feb. 6, the legislation imposes punishment of up to three years in prison for those who “publicly and against the facts attribute to the Polish nation or the Polish state responsibility or co-responsibility for Nazi crimes committed by the German Third Reich.” In other words, in Poland it may now be illegal to blame Poles for the Holocaust.

The law is a blow to free speech and historical truth alike…

So, when someone takes issue with aspects of the the Holocaust Narrative™, free speech concerns are thrown out the window, and the issue is framed as ‘hate speech’. Dozens of Western countries without First Amendment protections have initiated such laws, with no Jewish organizations protesting this ‘infringement’ upon free speech. One does not find many Jews objecting to, say, Germany’s law against criticism of but when it comes to this Polish law, well that’s a different story.

Since the rapid ascent of the conservative, unabashedly anti-migrant, nationalist, Polish-pride, Law and Justice Party came to power (a party which was only formed in 2001), **** in the media will continue to ply story after story involving framing-narratives of the personal victim, the Forever Oppressed ***.

In the Associated Press, Vanessa Gera has a piece titled “Polish Jews stunned, scared by eruption of anti-Semitism”, as if the intended narrative wasn’t already clear:

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Matylda Jonas-Kowalik has spent most of her 22 years secure in the belief that she would never know the discrimination, persecution or violence that killed or traumatized generations of Polish Jews before her. She once thought the biggest problem that young Jewish Poles like herself faced was finding a Jewish boyfriend or girlfriend in a country dominated by Catholics.

But an eruption of anti-Semitic comments in public debates amid a diplomatic dispute with Israel over a new Holocaust speech law has caused to her to rethink that certainty. Now she and others fear the hostile rhetoric could eventually trigger anti-Semitic violence, and she finds herself thinking constantly about whether she should leave Poland.

“This is my home. I have never lived anywhere else and wanted this to keep being my home,” said Jonas-Kowalik, a Jewish studies major at Warsaw University. “But this makes me very anxious. I don’t know what to expect.”

Poland’s Jewish community is the surviving remnant of a vibrant and diverse Polish- and Yiddish-speaking community that numbered 3.3 million on the eve of the Holocaust.

And, naturally, no context is provided for the following salient comments from prominent native Poles:

Amid Israeli criticism, a prominent Polish right-wing commentator used an offensive slur to refer to Jews. Rather than being punished, he was welcomed on TV programs, including a state television talk show where he and the host made anti-Jewish comments, including jokes about Jews and gas chambers.

The negative comments just kept on coming. A Catholic priest said on state TV that it was hard to like Jews, and his words were then quoted by the ruling party spokeswoman. An adviser to the president said he thought Israel’s negative reaction to the law stemmed from a “feeling of shame at the passivity of the Jews during the Holocaust.”

Commentators have also suggested that opposition to the Holocaust law was a cover for Jews wanting money from Poland, a reference to reparations that international Jewish organizations seek for prewar Jewish property seized by the communists…

The current wave of discrimination comes just weeks before the 50th anniversary of an anti-Semitic campaign orchestrated by Poland’s communist regime in March 1968. That campaign began with rhetoric eerily similar to the things being said today and ended up with 20,000 Jews forced to relinquish their possessions and their Polish citizenship and flee the country.

From the Jewish perspective, any phenomenon under discussion (from ‘free speech’ to Polish nationalism) is invariably framed as: Is it good for the Jews?

The Ballad of Korryn Gaines

Another black behaving badly, killed by the poh-leese, and then the dead black’s family are made millionaires at the taxpayers’ expense. (“Baltimore County jury awards $37M to family of police shooting victim”).

You read that right: $37 million.

And then there are the names. Oh, the names. The more ‘Random Scrabble Letter’ a black’s name is = the more ghetto they are.

The dead black was a 23 year old woman named Korryn Gaines. Her fiancé is named Kareem Courtney, and her mother named Rhanda Dormeus. Gaines has a 5 year old son named Kodi and a daughter named Karsyn (age unknown).

What happened? Details are thin, but basically cops arrive at Gaines’ apartment to serve an arrest warrant on someone for something. The whole family is in the apartment. Police arrive at the apartment and, presumably, knock on the door announcing their presence. After the police arrive, Courtney leaves the apartment with Karsyn, but Gaines stays inside with Kodi, refusing to let the police in and then donning a shotgun. (Y’know, the basic shotgun every ghetto person in the hood has in their apartment.) Gaines says she believes the arrest warrant is fraudulent.

A 6-hour standoff with police ensues, eventually ending when SWAT Officer Royce Ruby (I can’t find any info on what race he is, but from Gaines’ video of the encounter, he appears white) shoots and kills Gaines, wounding Kodi in the process, but not before Gaines gets a couple rounds off from her pump shotgun.

Ruby has since been cleared of any wrongdoing and has actually since been promoted to Corporal.

The best paragraph from a Baltimore Sun story on the verdict:

Family attorney J. Wyndal Gordon donned a Colin Kaepernick jersey before speaking to reporters. He said he was “filled with pride” that the jury made a decision to make the family whole.

Oh, and there’s this:

Gaines had a distrust of police and her family’s lawyers acknowledged she had mental illness that caused her to possibly be detached from reality.

This page has various cell phone video snippets and other info on the case. One paragraph that cracked me up:

In a phone conversation she recorded with a police negotiator, Gaines described her March traffic stop as traumatic, saying that she had been mistreated by police and that it led to her miscarriage of twins. The negotiator told Gaines that the police, at this point, could not simply leave. Gaines said she believed that the officers at her door were trying to take her back to the Woodlawn precinct, where she said she had been mistreated. She told the negotiator about Courtney being in prison, and said the police were again trying to disrupt their peaceful family life.

From the transcript of Ruby’s testimony, Gaines yelled the following at the Fuzz:

  • She talked about her prior arrest as an unjust kidnapping by the police and the Government.
  • The Government had kidnapped her fiancé.
  • Police were all devils.
  • Police were only at the location because she was black.
  • When she and her son were dead the news would report it and the world would know.
  • It would be worth it as long as long as she took at least one of us with her.
  • She absolutely was not coming out of the apartment.

Another telling angle of how pathologically f*cked the black ghetto subculture is:

Police say they asked Facebook to shut down Gaines’ page and her Instagram account during the standoff because her followers were encouraging her not to surrender…

How instilled this Black Persecution Complex is quite evident in this video snippet from a previous encounter Gaines had with Racist White Poh-Leese:

In March, Gaines was arrested by county police for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and other charges after being pulled over on traffic violations not far from her home. In videos she recorded of that encounter, she discussed incidents of police brutality and killings of black people across the country.

I must say, however, her prediction at the 14:25 marker is quite accurate.

Then, process to yourself what she tells her 5 year old son at the 17:30 marker:

“You see what they do to us, right? You fight them. They are not for us. They want to kill us. And you never, ever back down from them.”

And, so, the cycle of perpetual poverty, hostility, incivility, and anti-white animus marches forward, deepening and worsening from generation to generation.

It is worth pointing out that Gaines is a hero (“a fearless, unapologetic black woman”) to Angry Blacks, Inc. and their *** empathizers at DemocracyNow!

Like David Koresh in Waco, types like Gaines have a death wish, a self-fulfilling prophecy of ‘death by the poh-leese’. For ghetto blacks, this sense of persecution (framed in their own minds as part of a larger, greater-than-oneself, ‘struggle for racial justice’) provides deep meaning to their otherwise insignificant, unproductive, low IQ lives.

Moral of the story: If you point a gun at cops, you might get shot. But if you are black, and get shot, you’re surviving family members may win the Lotto.

The Beatles – Revolution (1968)

A blistering live version of “Revolution” by The Beatles, filmed on 9/4/68 at Twickenham Film Studios. They are all really playing, with Paul doing some great vocal counterpoints not on the album, though it appears they had the album track playing in the background to act as a metronome of sorts. (The last “All right!” in the song is the tell.) Also, notice George saying “John’s mic is shit” to Paul at the 11 seconds marker.
