We Are *Not* Nation-Building in Afghanistan

Ghoulish neocon Max Boot has an op-ed today in (where else) the NYT titled “Back to Nation-Building in Afghanistan. Good.”:

After a torturous and protracted White House review, President Trump unveiled what was billed as a new Afghanistan policy on Monday night. But what exactly was new?…

But on a deeper level, there was far more continuity than change — not least in Mr. Trump’s denial that he is engaged in nation-building when he is doing precisely that…

The only conceivable path to success lies in fostering stable and effective institutions of government that can police their own territory with diminishing amounts of outside assistance. In other words, nation-building…

The regular police and army have been disappointing. The police are corrupt and ineffective, while the army is intent on staying in fixed positions rather than taking the fight to the enemy.

But security forces do not exist in a vacuum; it will be necessary also to reduce corruption in the Afghan government and increase its capacity for effective action. This has proved to be a far more difficult task, with an administration often seemingly paralyzed by infighting between President Ashraf Ghani and the chief executive, Abdullah Abdullah. Northern warlords, meanwhile, have engaged in open fighting.

We just need to reduce corruption in the Afghan government.

That’s all.

Zuckerberg & Beirich vs. You

The Usual Suspects are working every possible angle to de-platform the Alt Right.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg declared last week that the social media site was dedicated to removing any content “that promotes or celebrates hate crimes.”

Mark Zuckerberg posted to Facebook recently condemning the recent events at Charlottesville which saw three deaths over the course of the weekend as far-left and far-right protesters clashed. The Facebook CEO stated that the company would be watching out for rallies in the future, stating, “With the potential for more rallies, we’re watching the situation closely.”

And, of course, Heidi and the $PLC are involved:

The lovely Heidi Beirich.

Heidi Beirich of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a group that has previously been accused of branding websites and organizations as “hate groups” for political purposes, is reportedly working with Facebook to target certain groups. Beirich told WTSP that the group “had a really productive conversation with Facebook” and that “a lot of neo-Nazis have abandoned Facebook. They are much more responsive and they have told us they are going to redouble their efforts.”

The BNN reporter gets in a nice zinger:

When asked why Facebook  was working with the SPLC when the group was cited as the inspiration for convicted domestic terrorist Floyd Lee Corkins’ attack on the Christian organization Family Research Council, a spokesperson only responded, “We have regular conversations with a number of different organizations – the SPLC being just one of them.” Facebook did not respond to a question as to whether the SPLC’s Facebook page would be suspended for inciting violence.

Salem, VA

The City of Charlottesville will be covering the dastardly, triggering, Confederate statues with burkas:

Following a deadly vehicle ramming at a demonstration against white nationalists earlier this month, the city of Charlottesville is set to cover controversial statues of Confederate generals in black fabric, city officials said.

We are living in 2017, but you’d think it was 1600s Salem.

Polling of the Alt Right

Post-C-ville, The Cathedral appears interested in psychologically profiling the Alt Right. Here is one such recent (clearly liberal) attempt to treat white identitarians as a zoological specimen.

With MSM-sponsored polling, how a question is framed is everything. Short of that precise information, make what you will about the following aspects of a recent WaPo poll. Given how The Narrative equates ‘Alt Right’ with ‘white supremacist’ and/or ‘neo-Nazi’, methinx underlying support for the basic concept of white identity politics is stronger than folks realize:

The Post-ABC survey found that roughly 1 in 6 Americans either support the alt-right or say it is acceptable to hold white supremacist or neo-Nazi views…

The survey is among the first to measure support for the alt-right. Some 10 percent of adults support the movement, including similar shares of Democrats and Republicans. While it has gained greater attention after the Charlottesville protests alongside Nazi and Ku Klux Klan demonstrators, just about 4 in 10 Americans think the alt-right holds neo-Nazi or white supremacist views. About 2 in 10 say it does not, while another 4 in 10 have no opinion on the movement.

The Post-ABC poll was conducted Aug. 16 to 20 among a random national sample of 1,014 adults reached on cellular and landline phones. The margin of sampling error for overall results is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Imagine how much higher these numbers would be if the MSM spent any time carefully differentiating ‘white identitarian’ from ‘white nationalist’ from ‘white supremacist’ from ‘neo-Nazi’.

The Specter of Spectre

This video excerpt of Barbara Lerner Spectre, which is widely known within the Alt Right community, is striking in its directness and candor.

Bannon v. Kushner

What is pretty obvious, from afar, is that in the war between Steve Bannon (nationalist) and Jared Kushner (globalist), Jared won.

The Daily Mail is reporting:

Donald Trump’s controversial aide Steve Bannon was ‘pushed out’ by his daughter Ivanka and her husband because his far-Right views clashed with their Jewish faith, according to Washington sources…

First daughter Ivanka converted to Orthodox Judaism when she wed millionaire businessman Jared Kushner in 2009…

Ivanka has praised Judaism for creating ‘an amazing blueprint’ for family life and has said she keeps a kosher home and observes the rules of Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath, including not working or using electronics.

Meanwhile in a Vanity Fair piece titled “Steve Bannon Readies His Revenge: The war on Jared Kushner is about to go nuclear”, Gabe Sherman describes machinations Kushner took to get Bannon fired, as well as overtures implied in Bannon’s exit strategy:

On the morning he was being ousted as Donald Trump’s chief strategist last Friday, Steve Bannon had already turned the page. “Why do you sound unfazed?” a friend asked Bannon as news of his demise ricocheted across the web. “Because,” Bannon replied, “we’re going to war.” Hours later, Bannon was calling into the editorial meeting at Breitbart News, rallying his troops to continue the battles he waged inside the White House. “We have a duty to the country to be the vanguard of ‘The Movement,’” he told his staff, according to one person on the call. Bannon’s main targets are the West Wing’s coterie of New York Democrat “globalists”—Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner and former Goldman Sachs president Gary Cohn—as well as the “hawks,” comprised of National Security Adviser H.R McMaster and his deputy, Dina Powell. “He wants to beat their ideas into submission,” Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow told me. “Steve has a lot of things up his sleeve.”

This is going to get interesting.
